explore our world-renowned lagoon

The prime tour here at Pacific Resort and one not to be missed is our 5-hour leisurely cruise around Aitutaki Lagoon.

The colour of Aitutaki lagoon literally defies description. It can range from the purest lapis lazuli, to topaz to an iridescent opal in the space of half an hour. Another amazing aspect is the crystal clarity of the lagoon. When the coral formation rises close to the surface, you can see it and the sandy bottom quite clearly below you.

While you don't get close enough to the main lagoon reef to get drenched in it, if you carry a good 300mm lens, you'll get some great pictures of the surf created as the mighty deep-blue Pacific waters hurl themselves at this natural barrier.

Cruise among the inner reefs - there are plenty of stops along the way for those who want to snorkel and snorkel equipment is on board for your use.

The water really is crystal clear

As many parts of the lagoon are marine reserves, the schools of fish have learned their lessons well - they know that when the boats stop, there's plenty of free food!

Our guests love the experience of hand-feeding tropical fish. You'll also see giant clams and a vast array of other rare shells.

You see some extraordinarily colourful fish from the angel fish to the pencil shaped electric blue needle fish. While you are busy doing this, the hardworking crew on board are busy making you an island-style buffet lunch - which may include delicious barbequed marlin steaks.

Relax as your island guides perform for you, playing music on their fascinating array of traditional instruments and singing in the kind of beautiful harmonies you have to hear to believe.

Visit Moturangi Isle, a tiny and now uninhabited island that takes roughly 20 minutes to walk around. It wasn't always deserted, however - and you'll learn its fascinating history on your tour. Explore One Foot Island, including Aitutaki's 'official' post office!

You will need to book for this popular activity.
